Woodill Wildfire Dealer Brochure: 1954-1955

“You can become the most famous automobile dealer in your part of the country almost overnight!

And fame means profits!”

That’s how Woody Woodill opened up his “dealer brochure” inviting select individuals to consider selling the Woodill Wildfire from a showroom of their own.

This wasn’t unique with these types of cars.  Victress initially used Hellings Company as a distributor for their sports car bodies – even building some of the cars themselves.  Later Victress worked with Art Evans of Evans Industries in the same capacity.  Devin sought dealers out, and even companies such as Grantham Stardust did too.

You can’t hold back the enthusiasm and excitement these entrepreneurs had for their sports cars, and they shot for the stars in terms of what they thought possible.  It was a sign of the men who made these companies, and a product of the ebullient postwar times they were in.

The brochure we’re sharing today is exceptionally well-done.

  • Page 1 sets the stage on why this is a good investment.
  • Page 2 outlines the promotion that had already occurred and what would happen nationally in the near future.
  • I love Page 3 – a discussion of the components of a “Press Kit.”  Be sure to take the time to read it.  I’ve never heard of these being produced, but even if they created one copy, I would hope to be able to see it and share it with the Forgotten Fiberglass brethren worldwide.
  • Page 4 shows some of the magazines where the Wildfire appeared.  I think I’m missing at least one of them – the Life Magazine.  Calling Greg Griffin – should we pool our resources and see if we can find the Life magazine with the reference to the Wildfire?  That would be fun if we could find the right issue 🙂

Without delay, let’s take a look at Woody’s dealer brochure for the Woodill Wildfire.

Summary:

I’m a bit confused about page 4.  It says to “send $400 with order.”   I’m not sure what I’m buying for the $400 unless this is a down payment for the entire first kit/purchase.  It’s a bit more confusing since the “Wildfire Publicity Kit; Detailed Instructions; and Wildfire Franchise” are each listed at “no charge.”

Oh well.  Perhaps time will tell.

So….those of you who have known Woodill Wildfire sports cars for years – have you ever met anyone who tried to become a Wildfire Dealer?

That would be a great story for us to share here on Forgotten Fiberglass 🙂

Hope you enjoyed the story, and until next time…

Glass on gang…
