More Emerges On The BMC Singer Sports Car (Motorsport, October 1952)

Hi Gang…

Let’s try a short story today – and maybe another story later today.  I just can’t get enough of the vintage fiberglass sports car stories!

:-D

Going thru the magazine archives last night, I uncovered a bit more detail on the fiberglass sports car built and sold by Kjell Qvale.  It was a nice photo – one we’ve seen before – but a bit more information concerning the co-designer of the car, weight, and price.

The picture was quite large – it spanned across the top of one full page and two-thirds across the facing page.   They certainly were giving it a lot of press.   Here’s what the caption had to say.

A new sports car – the BMC – with fiberglass body that can be replaced in minutes has been developed by the British Motor Car Distributors Ltd., San Francisco.  According to Kjell H. Qvale, president of BMC and co-designer Robert Kennedy, the body will be mounted on a British sports car chassis.  The body weights just a little over 100 pounds.  The whole assembly will be priced under $3000.

Summary:

You remember the movie, “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”.

When it comes to research, Rick and I try to find…

“The Trivial, The History and The Stories” Everything that can help us put the “soul” back into these forgotten fiberglass sports cars of the 1950’s.

Hope you enjoyed the story, and until next time…

Glass on gang…

Geoff
